I’ve got ~7 weather apps for iOS but this got me all excited. There’s something about holding a device in your hand that trumps the download.
Popped the batteries in, placed the sensor on the North side of the house and now we can tell, at a glance, the weather outside and the weather inside. No need to locate the iPhone, find the weather app, and wait for it to provide the answer.
With all the hoopla surround SOPA and mass transition away from that despicable registrar, GoDaddy (I won’t bother giving them a link), I’ve decided to move my domains over to Hover. None of my domains are registered with GoDaddy and I’ve always steered clear of those bastards. For years, I’ve used PairNIC.
Now, I’ve actually nothing against PairNIC. So, why am I moving? Two reasons, mainly.
So, tonight I took advantage of a discount code and saved some dough. I painlessly transferred four domains over to Hover and plan to let the others expire.
Inspired by Brett Terpstra’s post, Some suggestions for better tagging, I have found myself tagging everything I can.
As part of a productivity bundle, I now own Tags, a Mac app dedicated to tagging everything including web pages, emails, files, and more.
The thing is, I find that I have tags all over the place now, and I wonder if there is more cohesion to be found in the world of tagging.
For instance, I am viewing a web page and would like to recall it at a later date. Typically, I would save it to my pinboard and add a tag. Now that I’m using the Tags app, do I tag it with Tags instead of sending it to my pinboard? Similarly, when I’m in Mail, I typically tag items with MailTags. Now, should I stop that and just use Tags?
Another issue is that I use a MacBook Air at home and a Mac Mini at work. I’m fairly certain that the tags I save with the Tags app are only ‘good’ on the machine I’m currently using. I guess it wouldn’t make sense to have my tags synced up necessarily so that’s fine.
Trying to find a suitable tagging workflow.
When it comes to crunch time, I turn to the The Pomodoro Technique. There is something about setting a 25 minute timer that kicks my butt into gear.
I’ve used various timers for this purpose. Currently, I’m using My Little Pomodoro, a Mac app and I like it. I have it set to change my IM status to busy with a custom message, ‘In the zone’.
OK, my five minute break is up. Got to get back to work!
He’s our dog. He runs around like crazy, chases his shadow, obliviously runs over the baby when he gets excited, sleeps an awful lot, barks at strangers, wiggles when we come home, always gets in the way when we are cooking or packing or pretty much anything we happen to be doing, and he snores.
